Iceland Over, 2016

Iceland Over consisted of two videos and a readymade automobile sculpture and was exhibited as part of Hávaði III in Ekkisens, Reykjavik. The Hávaði exhibitions have been created so far in three parts to criticize the political situation of the country each time. The second act of The Villains consisted of turning a car in to a vessel of mischief from which the artists conducted their operations. The second flare of the project was lit to call for attention. Speeches from politicians were burned on the radio. The two videos of the flare and the burning were shown on TV’s inside the exhibition room. Their car-sculpture was positioned outside the gallery space with a red siren and audiowork playing throughout the opening. Speeches from former and current politicians blasting from the car as a loop. One of them the famous speech that was spoken shortly after the beginning of the Icelandic financial crisis. Geir Haarde, the current priminister of that time addressed the nation in a time of the fall describing the terrible state of the Icelandic banking sector and the government’s efforts to improve the situation. Geir’s closing words “God bless Iceland” became a symbol of the Crash in Iceland.
