Stream In a Puddle - Acts of the Sun, 2016

Acts of the Sun was an artwork in three pieces, rooted in an act that consisted of filling a cow’s stomach with gips that hardened and was brought to the forest as a being to temporarily affect the area. The resault was a sculpture that was documented with photographs and videomaterial that was later used as an self made religious icon to channel the situation in a series of performance.

Each piece of the project is done with the same intention of exploration within the area of one’s stomach. The process is thought of as an fictional journey that derives from the artists stomach area, each piece is done to interperate and to transform the organs abstract energies and feelings.

The first act was performed as part of Stream In a Puddle* at Gallerii Metropol during the Tallinn Art Week. An approx 40 mintue performance. Starting with a full box of matches and a lump of clay. With a string a piece of the lump is sliced away and then a new form is created between the artist’s hands. The form is channeled from the stomach - showed in the photograph that hang’s as the highest point in the setting for the piece. As the form is placed on the golden stage, a match is lit and positioned on top of it next to another. A moment is given between each form as the matches burn down to the end. These gestures are repeated until the matches inside the match box are finished, thus the box of matches giving the timeframe of each performance.

In the second act, performed as part of Stream In a Puddle at the Plan B art festival, in Borgarnes Iceland. In the housing of Englendingavík - a new setting was created for the act. The photographs were positioned under glass plates on the floor with the golden stage. The video was projected on golden material, a miniclip of the stomach looped above the setting, giving it a golden reflection. Same sets of movements were repeated, resaulting in new forms of beings that were then left on the golden platform as the remnants of the performance.

*Stream in a Puddle was the first collaborative project of the liquid collective Computer Spirit (incl. Andrea Aðalsteins, Freyja Eilíf, Sigthora Odins and Heiðrún Viktorsdóttir.)
